CiviCRM Tutorials

  1. On the main CiviCRM menu click on Events > New Event
  2. In the 'From Template' and 'Event Type' fields select the appropriate values (if available)
  3. Enter the 'Event Title' - this should be as short as possible
  4. Enter the 'Event Summary' (again, be concise) and 'Complete Description' fields - tip: use formatting as little as possible, limiting it to bold and italicized text for emphasis, potentially aligning in center where appropriate, and using colored text only in rare situations - this approach ensures a clean and professional look of the posting that is in harmony with the overall look and feel of the website
  5. Fill out start and end dates and times
  6. Enter the number of participants
  7. If this event has a physical location (as opposed to a webinar), check off the '' check-box
  8. If you'd like anyone register for this event, check off the 'Public Event?' check-box
  9. Click on the Save button ==> new tabs appear
  10. Click on each of the tabs and review the default information/options and adjust as appropriate - most of the fields are quite intuitive and helpful tips are displayed throughout. Please review each field value very carefully as these settings affect how prospective event participants view, register and pay for the event.
  11. On the 'Online Registration' tab, make sure the 'Enable Online Registration' check-box is either on or off as needed
  12. If you've enabled online registration, most of the fields are fairly self-explanatory but in the 'Include Profile (top of page)' field, you must select the "Event Participant" profile.
  13. Once you've entered all information, click on the Save and Done button

Now you need to place the event into the calendar. View the "Post Event in Calendar" tutorial for step-by-step directions. First, however, you need to identify the ID of the newly created event. Here's how to do it:

  1. In the Manage Events screen locate the newly created event and note the ID in the 'Event' column right next to the event title
  2. The event URL then is index.php?option=com_civicrm&task=civicrm/event/info&reset=1&id=X where "X" is the event ID
